The trail going up Lion’s head is a screw top trail you’ll be circling the mountain getting to the top. At one point the path gives way to rough ground you have to step up using your hands to scramble over rocks. You will then continue steeply upwards to the first ladder, before traversing along a shelf with a chain handrail. Next, you will reach a fork, where you will have the choices to either veer left to circumnavigate two rock pitches or to turn right and climb the rock pitches. If you are not into vertical rock steps continue left, past some huge pine trees to gain the crest of the southeast ridge. At the summit of Lion's Head one has a 360 degree view it is one of the three iconic peaks that frame the city of Cape Town. It has Table Mountain as its backdrop and it is situated in the smallest and richest floral kingdoms in the world. Then little by little, the city lights will turn on or off offering a new sight. You will be provided with a headlamp when needed.
