The Krantzkloof Nature Reserve and Kloof Falls, managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, conserves 668 ha of the Molweni and Nkutu River gorges which have gouged deeply through the sandstone Kloof plateau. The area has been a reserve since 1950 and forms an important highly protected area in the middle of development. Situated just 4 kms from the Kloof Village centre, it has wonderful walking/hiking trails, view points and lots of wildlife.
Wildlife includes brown bush buck, dassies (rock hyrax), a few zebra, porcupine, bush pigs, mongoose and caracal. The magnificent crowned eagles nest on the cliffs above the falls and you are likely to hear their call as they circle high overhead. It is home to many vervet monkeys and there is a wealth of bird life. Listen for the distinctive wail of the large trumpeter horn bills and you may see kingfishers, heron, storks and guinea fowl
