The city of Pretoria is situated about 50km north of Johannesburg. It is the administrative capital of South Africa. Pretoria has a rich history of the Great trek. We do the tour of the Voortrekker monument to learn about the journey the Dutch people took from the Cape Province inland including the Battle of the Blood river where the Dutch faught with the Zulus under Dingaan. We proceed to the Union building, the administrative offices of the government of South Africa. The impressive building is surrounded by pretty terraced garden that offer Panoramic views over the city. It is nicknamed Jacaranda city due to Jacaranda trees lining the streets. Jacarandas bloom purple flowers between September and November. The statue of Nelson Mandela was unveiled here on Reconciliation Day the 16 December 2013,24 hours after his burial.
