The Montevideo carnival is one of the oldest and most popular traditions in Uruguayan culture. From the last days of January to the first days of March, dozens of groups grouped into five categories (Murgas, Comedians, Parodists, Magazines and Troupes of blacks and lubolos) tour the city performing on stages called “tablados.” At the same time they participate in the Official Competition of Carnival Groups.
Since the beginning of the last century, the stage has been the natural meeting place for carnival festivities. It is the expression of the popular festival, tradition and heritage of the city. It is there where great popular artists have come into contact with murguero singing, candombe and all the artistic expressions of our carnival.
At night we can see between 2 and 4 shows on a stage, you will feel the carnival culture as we experience it in Montevideo and it makes many travelers visit us for these artistic expressions.
