We offer a unique way to explore the Metropolitan Museum, through carefully curated, themed, interactive tours. We include discussion, activities, and handouts to create a distinctive experience. Tourgoers will explore works of art from around the world and from many cultures, looking at connections among them, and exploring their relation to the theme.
From the spooky to the scary, the macabre to the mysterious, the ghostly to the ghoulish, the interactive “Ghost Stories” will take visitors on a tour of things frightful in the Metropolitan Museum. Participants will travel across cultures and across time to see Flying Dutchmen and funerary masks, still lifes and sculpture. We’ll look at Egyptian, American, and European works of art, to name a few, plus do a fun activity. All the while, we’ll look at how different cultures depict the fearsome and the gruesome, in pursuit of what scares us…and why.
