The museum of people’s architecture and way of life of Ukraine is located on a territory of about 150 hectares on the picturesque Kyiv outskirts. This is a remarkable complex of open-air exhibits. The museum structures are original examples of wooden architecture transported here from the different regions of Ukraine. The territory is divided into separate areas corresponding to the historical regions of the country.
The museum collection contains different kinds of structures: water mills and forges, cellars, wells, wooden churches, old school etc. The visitors can enter the buildings and courtyards, see the details of old peasant life, the stove which was a centerpiece of every “khata” (house) since it was used for cooking, drying, and rest. Exhibits include objects used for housework, rest, wedding ceremonies, objects of wood, and ceramics. The employees of the museum are dressed in national costumes. The museum is the biggest establishment in its kind in Eastern Europe.
