Mangapwani caves are natural caves and are located 20 km north of Stone Town, within an easy walk-off Mangapwani beach. The first large, dank cave incorporates a freshwater pool while the slave cave, further north, is said to have been used as an illegal holding pen for slaves after the trade was abolished in the late 19th century.
