What To Expect

Zanzibar is known as the ‘Spice Island’, you’ll tour a spice farm to see where the likes of vanilla, nutmeg, and cardamom are grown while learning and tasting as you go. You’ll head into the countryside for this private tour, and the spice plantations that cover Zanzibar will be your focus for the morning. Once you arrive at the farms, you’ll set off on a two-hour tour to see where pepper, cloves, nutmeg, vanilla, and cinnamon are grown. Your guide will give you the lowdown on how spices are used in local dishes, medicine, and ceremonies, too. You'll head to Stone Town to catch the boat over to Changuu Island, also known as Prison Island – it's approximately a 30-minute crossing. It's inhabited by giant tortoises, and you'll visit the foundation that takes care of them. You will also visit the Prison Island Museum, where you can learn more about its history, and then have time to swim, snorkel, and have lunch. You’ll need to pack your bathing suit for this one as you’ll be enjoying the pristine beaches and waters that encircle Changuu Island.
