Death camps a has become a symbol of World War II atrocities. Created by the Nazis in occupied Poland in 1940 near the town of "Oświęcim". Immediately after the war ended camps were transformed into the museum, that was in 1947. Since then visitors can see the conditions in which people lived and literally feel the enormity of atrocities perpetrated upon them.
The current museum occupies an area of two extant parts of the former Nazi concentration camp – Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. Together they hold an extensive area, where the prisoners’ barracks, the ruins of the crematoria and gas chambers, and the railway platform at Birkenau are located.
