The city of Ålesund is built on multiple islands, with the heart of it stretched over two islands in particular: Nørvøy and Aspøy. In this experience you will go for a walk through the various parts of the city center with an experienced guide and your tour will focus on Art Nouveau buildings.Ålesund has an unusually consistent Art Nouveau architecture style. Most of its buildings were built between 1904 and 1907, after the fire which destroyed over 800 houses in the city center in January 1904. As you walk around, you will be able to spot all sorts of fishing boats in the waters that surround the city, a sign that fishing is still the main industry in this region of Norway.During this excursion you will also visit the Jugendstil Senter (Art Nouveau Museum). It is located in the old Swan Pharmacy where a time capsule takes you back in time. Here you can learn more about the town fire, the rebuilding of the town and the Art Nouveau style.
