You can start your Tour at Your Hotel in Colombo. This goes southeast via Avissawella through every shade and tone of rich green to yellow-green of the rubber plantations, paddy fields, and tea estates. Before reaching Ratnapura you will visit the Bopath Ella waterfalls with a height of approximately 100 feet or 30 meters. On to Ratnapura, City of Gems and see Adam’s Peak (in the distance) – a 2,243m mountain venerated by Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims. After lunch, visit one of the famous gem mines of Ratnapura. Gems such as the Blue, Star and Yellow Sapphires, Cat’s Eyes, Rubies, Alexandrites, Amethysts, Zircons, Topaz, and Tourmalines are found here. There will be an opportunity to watch a gem cutter and polisher at work and also visit at a lapidary. The last stop will be at the Saman Devala, an important shrine for Buddhists is devoted to God Saman a Buddhist deity who is regarded as the guardian of Ratnapura.
