Meru National Park is a top destination in Kenya for spotting rhinos in their natural habitat. The Rhino Sanctuary within the park is home to 34 black rhinos and 70 white rhinos. The park is also famous for its connection to Elsa the Lioness and the 1966 film Born Free, which starred Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers as Joy and George Adamson, the real-life couple who raised the orphaned lioness, Elsa, to adulthood. Meru is also home to a wide variety of other wildlife, including cheetahs, hippos, zebras, giraffes, hartebeest, oryx, oribi, waterbuck, and a rich diversity of bird species.
