The most prominent feature in Petra is the Al-Khazneh, which means "the treasury". The sophisticated facade is carved out of a sandstone rock face, and it’s believed to be Nabatean King Aretas IV’s mausoleum in the 1st century A.D. Later on, it was named the treasury as it was believed to have contained treasures. In 1985, Petra was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it continues to attract over 1 million visitors every year. This is one of the top tourist attractions in Jordan.
