The colourful history of river rafting began in Portland. Long bamboo rafts were used to transport bananas along the Rio Grande to and from the coast where they would be shipped to far off lands. Before long, visitors to the island would hitch a ride on the rafts, which proved to be the perfect vantage point from which to take in the gorgeous scenery of the island's lush interior. Flowing from high up in the majestic Blue Mountains and stretching over 65 kilometres, the Rio Grande is one of Jamaica’s longest rivers and an ideal route to slow down and savour the moment. Begin your rafting experience in the hills above Port Antonio. As you leisurely drift along, you'll be captivated by the stunning beauty of the surrounding flora and fauna.
