Welcome to Matera (Unesco World Heritage) the European capital of the culture 2019.
Matera and its districts of ancient cave dwellings, "Sassi", were declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1993 and are now considered one of the main italian attraction.
People have been settling here for a long time: Matera is often cited as one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world.
