The Te Deum is a Latin prayer that is intoned as thanksgiving in some solemn circumstances, such as during the election of the Pope, at the end of the Conclave before leaving the Sistine Chapel, or at the end of the Councils and on the last day of the civil year. And in fact the reason for which it is recited is above all thanksgiving for something that has been accomplished and must be started again, with all possible responsibility and commitment, precisely as at the end of a year and the beginning of a new one.
