Depart from your hotel in Rome with your English speaking driver towards Bari, Apulia. Meet your guide and spend 3 hours walking around the town, seeing its highlights, its beautiful beach and above all, one of the most important pilgrimage destination for Catholics and Orthodox Christians, the Basilica of San Nicola. The Basilica was built in the 11th and 12th centuries. The origins of the basilica are steeped in legend - one is that St. Nicholas passed Bari on his way to Rome and declared that would have been his last home. Today, the structure houses one of the most important Romanesque sculptures in southern Italy: the throne of a bishop. Walk a mosaic of paths and between the two large towers that give the church the appearance of a castle. It was actually used as a castle on four separate occasions. Before coming back to Rome, have a tasty lunch ( fee not included ) and wonder around the typical streets to do some shopping!
