The monastery of San Marco was home to both the painter Fra Angelico & the apocalyptic preacher Savonarola. Now a museum, San Marco has a collection of masterpieces by Fra Angelico & Ghirlandaio & you can visit the spartan room once inhabited by Savonarola. It was here that the preacher slept & prayed & wrote scathing attacks on the sins of Florence. Don’t miss the other monastic cells, many of which are decorated with beautiful religious paintings by Fra Angelico.
