Famous for being the city where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment, Bodh Gaya is one of the most important places of the four pilgrimages related to the life of Gautama Buddha. One of the chief source of attraction in Bodh Gaya is the 80 feet Buddha statue situated next to the Mahabohdi Temple.
The first capital of Mauryan Empire, Rajgir is ancient city in the Nalanda district which dates back to 1000 BC. Housing the ancient Nalanda university, Rajgir is the education point where Mahavir and Lord Buddha taught their beliefs in the 5th and 6th century BC.
Nalanda was a huge and venerated Buddhist monastery in the ancient kingdom of Magadha. The city boasts of large teaching institutes like Taxila and Nalanda, and Vikramshila, the establishment of which were inspired by Vedic scholarships.
Kushinagar is famous for being the place where Gautama Buddha attained his Parinirvana after his death. The city houses a stupa and a pilgrimage site built by Ashoka to honor Buddha's Parinirvana.
Vaishali is the ancient city in present day Bihar where Gautam Buddha delivered his last sermons before his death in 483 BCE. Later in 383 BCE, King Kalasoka assembled Budhhist council, making the city and important destination for both Jains and Buddhists.
Lumbini is widely believed to be the birthplace of Gautam Buddha and therefore holds significant importance for Buddhists and Jains. The city houses a number of ancient edifices and temples, including Mayadevi temple and the pillar of Ashoka.
Varanasi is widely considered the land of temples because of the large numbers of religious edifices present in the city, some of which even have their mentions in the Puranas. Besides temples and ghats, Varanasi projects profound history and culture, which make the city a unique destination.
