Kerala's network of navigable backwaters stretches to over 900km. These served as the main mode of transport in the bygone era. The most important town in this stretch is Alleppey or Alappuzha. It is known as the "Venice of the East". It is also home to Kuttanad, the rice bowl of Kerala, one of the very few places in the world where farming is done below sea level. Proceed to Alleppey for a very special experience of cruising on board the famous houseboats. The houseboat will cruise through the tranquil backwaters, passing by lush green paddy fields, villages, temples, etc. giving you an opportunity to view the life on the backwaters. On board, enjoy a traditional Kerala Lunch on board during the cruise. A stop will be made at the Champakulam village to visit the famous St.Mary's church which is centuries old. The cruise docks after lunch and you disembark at the jetty where your vehicle is waiting to transfer you back to Cochin and your hotel.
