Transfer a short distance to Fort Cochin where one of the important tourist attractions is, the St. Francis Church. Originally built in 1503, is the oldest European church in India Then, take a stroll through the charming area stopping to see the Chinese fishing nets. After your exploration, drive to Mattancherry. Here, visit the Dutch palace with its medieval charm that was built by the Portuguese and presented to Raja of Kochi, in 1555 AD. Next visit one of the major tourist attractions in the area: the Jewish Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth, built in 1568. Take your time to explore the area as you walk through the Jew street and admire the architecture, the stores and the many different wares being sold. It is a lovely experience as you discover a slice of local life.
