Medieval Mile Walking Trail

Step out on Ireland’s Medieval Mile and discover the stories of Kilkenny’s Tudor merchants in this fascinating walking tour experience. Our expert guides will bring you through the streets and laneways of Ireland’s medieval capital, pointing out hidden gems and weaving tales of wealthy merchant families in this walled city.

The tour departs from the reception desk at the Medieval Mile Museum and brings guests on an hour-long stroll along St. Mary’s Lane, Kieran Street, Parliament Street and the Bull Ring, returning to the museum along the High Street. The tour content will concentrate on the lives of the people that lived in the heart of the city, between Kilkenny Castle to the south and St. Canices Cathedral to the North. The wealthy merchants built their Renaissance limestone mansions along the routeway between these two imposing structures and many of these mansions survive – hidden in plain sight.
