The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza is an important cultural center in the Paseo del Prado in Madrid. The artworks that this museum houses were once the property of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza and were previously held in a museum in Lugano, Switzerland. After the Baron’s marriage with a Spanish woman, he wanted to give his precious collection to the Spanish government, and it was decided that the collection should reside in Madrid.The Museum is one of the most important in the city, country and world. It offers an overview of art from the 13th century to the late 20th century. In the nearly 1,000 works on display, visitors can contemplate the collection that includes important artists such as Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens, Caravaggio, Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Kandinsky, Hopper or Picasso. The Museum organizes temporary exhibitions and activities for all audiences, such as workshops, conferences, concerts, cinema and much more.Lastly, the Museum Shop, with independent access, is an elegant space with exclusive items inspired by some works of art, created by well-known artists, designers and local artisans.In addition to the permanent and the Carmen Thyssen collections, your ticket includes thematic tours on a wide range of topics such as food, sustainability, social challenges at the collection works, fashion, jewellery, the Museo as a Mirror of Don Quixote, inclusive love, wine culture in the Thyssen-Bornemisza collection.

  • You can also visit the temporary collections, such as: Colonial Memory in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collections (from 25 June to 20 October 2024), Tabita Rezaire. Calabash Nebula (from 8 October to 12 January 2025), Peter Halley in Spain (from 19 October 2024 to 19 January 2025)
  • Free entry to the Permanent Collections on Mondays between 12.00pm and 4.00pm
  • The audio guide for the permanent collection (2.5 hours or a shorter 30-minute version) is available in Spanish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Russian, Japanese, Chinese and Korean
  • The audio guide for the temporary exhibitions (1 hour) is available in Spanish and English
  • The audio guide for the thematic tours (45 minutes) is available in Spanish and English
  • Proof of status will be shown when acquiring the reduced ticket at the point of entry on the day of the visit
  • Entrance for the ground floor exhibition is subject to availability
