“Colon last steps”
Full day excursion in which we will travel to the vicinity of Huelva to know the last steps of Columbus before leaving for the first time in search of the new route of the Indies, in which he ran into the new continent, changing completely the way of life of Old Europe.
During the tour we will visit the Muelle de las Carabelas, in which are the replicas of the 3 naos that departed on the first trip of Columbus. In addition to the replicas of the boats, its main tourist attraction, the Muelle de las Carabelas Museum has an interpretation center, the medieval quarter (recreated around the dock) and the Encuentro Island, where an attempt has been made to recreate the indigenous culture of the Island of Guanahani, first island in which Christopher Columbus landed on October 12, 1492, which he named San Salvador.
Later we will move to the Monastery of Santa María de la Rábida, where Christopher Columbus stayed, before leaving for the New World from Andalusia, while he was still preparing his project, and here is buried Martín Alonso Pinzón, who died a few days after the return of the first Columbian trip.
Finally, we will go to the town of Moguer in which we will visit the Monastery of Santa Clara. It is the most outstanding Colombian monument of Moguer. His abbess Inés Enríquez, aunt of King Ferdinand the Catholic, supported the discovery trip in court. After returning from the discovery trip, Christopher Columbus and the rest of the people of Moguer spent the first night in his church, fulfilling the vow made on the high seas when a storm was about to overturn “La Niña”.
