Lanzarote may only be a 30-minute ferry ride from Fuerteventura, but in the scenery stakes, it's a world away. On this private tour, you'll discover the lava-scarred landscapes of Timanfaya National Park, journey through a palm tree-studded valley in Haria and taste wine from a volcanic vineyard. Pablo, one of our local guides, says, ‘With a lot of patience and skill, vintners have made this grey land productive. You'll see the low, curved walls called socos sheltering each vine growing in its hollow. All this work is to capture the moisture from the damp north winds. It's worth it – the wines are excellent.'After pick-up, you'll catch the ferry to Playa Blanca on the south coast of Lanzarote. The action starts straight away at Timanfaya National Park. You'll feel the heat beneath your feet as you watch brushwood burst into flames and a steaming geyser shoot from the ground. The park is home to more than 100 volcanic craters, so you might feel like you've landed on another planet.Next up is the grape-growing region of La Geria for a wine tasting experience and a journey through Haria – known as the Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees. After a buffet lunch of traditional dishes prepared with local ingredients, you'll visit the Jameos del Agua volcanic cave – local architect Cesar Manrique's fusion of art and nature. And before catching the ferry back, you'll have the option to visit either El Golfo green lagoon and nearby Los Hervideros cliffs or the whitewashed village of Teguise.
