The town of Vejer has always been walled and some of its towers are still well preserved, such as the Mayorazgo Tower, the San Juan Tower and the Corredera Tower. See its medieval town gates, the 11th century castle, which combines elements of Muslim and Christian architecture. Visit the ruins of the Roman city of Baelo Claudia in the northwest of Tarifa. Prosperous at the time of Emperor Claudius, the city went into decline hastened by earthquakes, and was completely abandoned by the 6th century. Next to Bolonia Beach, considered one of the 5 most beautiful beaches in Spain, the archaeological site preserves the most representative elements of a typical Roman city.
