A place that captivates its authenticity is the Nemocón Salt Mine, which is reached in thirty minutes from Zipaquirá. There, 80 meters below ground, travelers travel 1,600 meters of tunnels, from which approximately 8 million tons of salt were extracted between 1816 and 1968.
The 28 brine mirrors attract attention, in which salt rocks dissolved and produce an impressive optical effect. In the chapel's chamber there is a huge 1,300-kilogram stone sphere that symbolizes the world.
Another attraction of great importance is the salt crystal of 1,600 kilos, carved in the shape of a heart in the '60s by the miner Miguel Sánchez. In the tour, you can see the stalactites and stalagmites and there are even an ecological trail, an auditorium, and a geology room.
