Christ Redeemer Monument, at the top of Corcovado Mountain (710m / 2330ft), is certainly Brazil’s most famous landmark, located in the first sector of the Tijuca Forest National Park.
The moderate hike starts at Parque Lage at the base of Corcovado Mountain, a park covered with Atlantic Rainforest, with a beautiful and imponent old mansion and many century-old palm trees.
The trail is around 2hs, and crosses the preserved Atlantic forest of the Tijuca National Park to one of the most beautiful views of the city from the top of the mountain!
From up there the view is very rewarding and it’s considered to be one of Rio’s most privileged belvederes.
Not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries. Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health. Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. Recommendations: wear light clothing and hiking shoes, bring a small backpack with water, snacks, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, cap or hat, sunglasses, cash for tickets and extras.. Hike length: 10 km / 6,2 miles (round trip / total).. The ticket to access the statue only can be purchased upon arrival at the top, in the park's ticket office. Not sold in advance..
